The Last Moment the Leader of The G30S, Lieutenant Colonel Untung, was Killed by the Firing Squad in Lembang

NGAMPRAH, AYOBANDUNG.COM - A historical archive collector from Washington, United States named Jacob Cass uploaded a short video on his Instagram account on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

The video contains a brief explanation by Jacob about his collection of historical photos of the execution of the leader of the September 30th Movement (G30S), Lieutenant Colonel Untung Syamsuri.

In the video, a photo of Lieutenant Colonel Untung standing in front of the firing squad execution pole. His feet, arms, and eyes were bound by cloth.

On both sides, Two military police officers were seen checking the knots of the cloth tied on Untung's body.

"I got this photo from a house seller in Europe who acquired it from the archives of the newspaper company in France,” said Jacob Cass on his Instagram account @koleksi_sejarah_indo. Behind Jacob’s photo of Lieutenant Colonel Untung’s execution, there is information stating that the execution was carried out in the Lembang area near the city of Bandung on October 5, 1967.

Not only that, behind the photo there's a Belgian journalist name from the French media, Agence France-Presse (AFP).

“I bought this photo a few years ago. At first, I didn’t know what this photo was. I just took a gamble.” Jacob concluded.

He is close to Suharto

Before being executed in Lembang after kidnapping a number of generals, Lieutenant Colonel Untung was known to be close to Suharto.

Soeharto even regarded Untung as a great soldier and worthy of being assigned to strategic locations.

Starting from the operation to suppress the PRRI (The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia) rebellion in West Sumatra in 1958, to the Trikora operation which earned him the Bintang Sakti (Holy Star) award from President Soekarno.
